Another way to belong
Soon after arrival at the Prep, pupils are allocated to one of four Houses: Barbarians, Foresters, Nomads and Corinthians.
Pupils receive House points for positive behaviour and achievement, and the chance to work towards certificates, handed out in Friday assembly.
Keenly contested inter-House sports competitions, involving all pupils, take place throughout the year. A highlight for many are the House activity days, which provide a great opportunity for children in different year groups to work together and share their knowledge and ideas. There will often be music, drama, games and art, as well as the chance to apply skills learnt in maths, science, computing or geography.
Barbarians, Corinthians and Foresters are historic Houses at the Prep, created when the School was for boys only, and named after nomadic sports sides of the amateur era in rugby, football and cricket respectively. In 2015, as part of a revamp of the House system, a fourth House – ‘Nomads’ – was introduced, named after the University’s women’s hockey side – a mark of the co-educational status of the School and the relatively recent emergence of hockey at the Prep.
